A Race for Very Strong Hearts. . . and Heads: The Valparaiso Cerro Abajo

This video comes from the Valparaiso, Chile Cerro Abajo, literally "downhill," bicycle race. I love the dog scampering out of the way in the middle of the run. Just watching I reflexively tuck-in my fingers and elbows. Except for the recent tsunami images from Japan, this is the most terrifying thing I've ever seen. Unlike the tsunami videos, the people involved in the Cerro Abajo Race chose to be a part of it. Thanks to Axis of Oversteer for pointing us to the most visually stunning and insane images anywhere.

What's an Alfa Romeo?

2012 Alfa Romeo 4c Concept Drawing
This! And if the 4c is brought to market, then it is high time Alfa came back to the United States! While you're at it, make sure Alfa brings along the 8c, 159 and GT too! The Axis of Overstear gods posted this sneak peak on their site and are reporting that the 4c will enter production in 2012, perform like a Porsche Cayman S and cost less.

For those without heart conditions, you may want to check-out this video demonstrating how to "polish" an Alfa Romeo 8c Spyder. WARNING: Not necessarily safe for work!

Ford & Ferrari at it Yet Again!

From our buddies at Axis of Oversteer we find an amusing and, apparently, true legal tidbit. Ford sued Ferrari this week over Ferrari's announcement that their new Formula 1 racer would be designated F150 (for Ferrari-150th Anniversary of the unification of Italy.) Ford contends that it would dilute the brand of their iconic and best-selling pick-up truck, the F-150. Ferrari quickly agreed to change the name, saying that they had not intended anyone to think that their race car was related to a Ford truck. The proposed new name is the F150th Italia. We say, "Ford, drop the suit and settle this like gentlemen. . . just like you did in 1963." The remake of the Ford GT40 just whet our appetites for a new Ferrari-Ford duel. You have Maaco-Fremont's blessing to do it in either F1 or LeMans-style racing.

Axis of Oversteer

Great name. Great blog. Go visit! Here's a sample titled "Racing on the Moon, Chased by Helicopters." They are describing the latest Dakar Rally that ended today. Maaco's just become a regular follower and we're adding a link on our site. Absolutely brilliant collection of photos, car & race stats. Our kind of folks.

Here's another sample from the Axis of Oversteer site of the one-off Ferrari P4/5 Competizione designed by Pinifarina and built by ProTo for James Glickenhaus. This is the second P4/5 for Glickenhaus. His first was built in 2006 as a road car based on a Ferrari Enzo. This second Competizione is intended for racing and is based on the Ferrari 430 Scuderia. The Pininfarina design is, in our humble opinion, far more comely than either the Enzo or the 430.
